dog sledding in lapland

Why choose Nova Arctic for your dog sledding adventure in Lapland?

Here are five good reasons:

Experience matters

Traveling through remote areas in the arctic is not something you want to leave to amateurs; overnight dogsledding tours demand an organised and responsible guide. Nova Arctic's Per Berglund is an outstanding guide with long experience of the outdoors, having lived in Lapland for almost 25 years.

The great outdoors makes you hungry

You work up quite an appetite dog sledding through the crisp arctic air. Nova Arctic's tour leader Per is a professionally trained chef, so you'll enjoy excellent food, prepared with high-quality local ingredients, on your tour.

Passion and competence are a winning combination

Nova Arctic's Per Berglund has a passion for the great outdoors and the dogs that race you through it. He started with his first Alaskan Husky 1989, taking part in his first dog sledding race in 1990. He became Swedish champion in long distance with sled dogs in 2001. He lived next to the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi for 15 years with sled dogs, sharing his expertise as an occasional dog sledding guide for guests at the Ice Hotel.

Location is crucial

Nova Arctic is based in Hemavan and our dog sledding tours take you into the surrounding area, in one of Europe's largest Nature Reserves. Unlike the area around the Ice Hotel, which is flat, the Hemavan/Tarnaby region has more alpine terrain, with high peaks and valleys. This makes for very beautiful and dramatic scenery.

You won't get lost with us

Per has taken part in a 3-day Winter orientation competition with sled dogs 13 times and won twice - in 1999 and 2000 - so you can be quite sure he knows how to find his way in the mountains. He uses a GPS system for orientation and carries a satellite phone in case of emergencies. (As a standard safety routine, he always makes sure more than one person knows how to use the phone.)

We help you plan

We can provide you with all the information you need to plan your trip successfully from start to finish. Nova Arctic cooperates with several hotels and tour operators, so if you wish, you can easily combine your dogsledding adventure with a longer holiday in this uniquely beautiful part of the world.
